Speed and flexability are one of the most important attributes to increasing a dogs' agility level. As humans we know how important it is to feel confident and balanced throughout the day and I believe that dogs are very similar in the treatment that they need from us.Dog owners are becoming more involved in the well being of their pets and are reserving special time for them to train. This is time well spent due to the fact that dog agility is one of the newest and fastest growing sports around today.
Dog Agility History And Training
England in the 1970's is where it is thought that dog agility training was started and inspired by horse jumping. Both were attributed to a bond that is created between the animal and the owner.Advantages in the area of team skills and strategies were also developed. The quickest time and the lowest fault team takes top spot when in a competition.Similar to knocking down a fence pole in horse jumping where there are penalties.
A Dogs positive advantage
Successfully completing an agility course gives a shy owner and dog more confidence to do it all over again without missing a beat and it just gets better as far as training goes. For an overactive dog a training course may help burn away some of that hyperactive energy.Training is more taxing on the mental side rather than the physical side but is kept in check by the communication system between the owner and the animal that is said by trainers to be somewhat similar to regular human contact.
To make a great team in agility training, your dog and yourself must be in perfect sync, since there is no leash or collar allowed on a agility course. The order of obstacles is different on each course and the pathway twists and turns, so the dog, to be successful, has to learn a whole new vocabulary.
Puppies
Four months is what is believed to be an acceptable age for a puppies to use a small dog agility course with regular walks of two miles until they get older. They should not be rushed through the courses as this just might cause injuries. So good luck in your dog training efforts.
