Dog Training Books Review

When you see a badly behaved dog in the street we are embarassed for the owner and upset if the dog is a nuisance to us. Nobody likes a badly behaved dog.

Having decided that you want to have a well trained dog you can choose to either get somebody to train your dog for you or you can do your own dog training. Working with your dog yourself will create a terrific relationship between you and your dog.

You can also join local dog training classes and some people find this is the best route for them but classes tie you down to a certain time each week and they may not easily fit in with your busy lifestyle.

Always give your dog lots of praise and attention when he performs his instructions well. Dogs love being appreciated so the more praise you give him the harder he will try to do the things that earn that praise and attention.

Show your emotion and let your dog know how pleased you are and he will try even harder to make you happy. The more he continues on doing the right thing give him the praise that he deserves. This will create an impression on him that he has to try hard to please you and make you happy.

Having a pocket full of dog treats can help with your dog training. When your dog has done what you commanded particularly well give him a dog treat as an extra bonus for doing so well. He will remember and learn that by trying really hard to do as required he might earn an extra treat.

Avoid hitting or yelling at your dog as this is counter productive because all it does is confuse and upset him. Praise when he does well and just remain calm and quiet when things don't go so well. Be gentle yet firm. Speak gently when you issue a command but do it in firm way. You must show him you are the boss but always show him your affection.

Try to develop a regular routine for your dog training. A short contructive period every day is far better than a long session once a week which may leave your dog tired and confused. Keep the training to short periods and just practice one thing at a time.
